How it works
Your rate times your hours in a week is what a week of work pays. Times the weeks you work in a year, that is your yearly pay. Monthly, every two weeks and weekly split that year evenly: divided by 12, 26 and 52. If your vacation is unpaid, take those weeks off the 52. Reverse mode does the same in the other direction: a yearly salary divided by the hours you work in a year.
Questions
- How do you turn an hourly rate into a salary?
- Rate times hours per week gives the pay for a week you work; times the weeks you work in a year gives the yearly pay. Monthly, every two weeks and weekly are the year divided by 12, 26 and 52, so with fewer than 52 weeks worked the weekly figure is an average. Take off unpaid vacation weeks. If you track hours in YourHourly, the calculator starts from your rate and your real average week.
- How do you estimate take-home pay?
- From your gross yearly salary we take off federal and provincial or state income tax, and CPP and EI in Canada or Social Security and Medicare in the US, using the published brackets and rates for the year shown. We don't know your deductions, benefits, other income, credits or city taxes, so your pay stub will differ. It is an estimate, not tax advice.
