Cookies and ads

Last updated: 2026-10-30

Version 1, effective 2026-10-30. This notice is part of our Privacy Policy.

What these are

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Local storage is a similar store in your browser that only that site can read. Apps use SDKs (code from other companies) and your phone's advertising ID in a similar way.

How Google uses data for ads

Google and other ad companies may use cookies or your device's advertising ID to show ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. Learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's Ad Settings, and through YourAdChoices in the US or YourAdChoices.ca in Canada.

If you say no to personalized ads, you still see an ad, just a less targeted one. Non-personalized ads can still use cookies to limit how often you see an ad and to stop fraud.

Your choices where you live

  • EEA, UK and Switzerland: we ask before loading ads or ad cookies. "Only necessary" is as easy as "Accept".
  • Quebec: tracking for ads is off unless you turn it on. We ask first, the same way as in Europe.
  • Rest of Canada: clear notice, and you can opt out at any time.
  • California and other US states with privacy laws: you can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your data for ads (below). We treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as that opt-out, with no extra step.
  • iPhone: the app asks before it uses your advertising ID. If you say no, ads are not personalized.

Your choices

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. Use the switch below to opt out of personalized ads on this website in this browser. Turning on Global Privacy Control in your browser does the same, with no extra step. You can also choose "Only necessary" when we ask, or turn off personalized ads in Google's Ad Settings. In the app, turn on Do not sell or share in Settings, say no to tracking on iPhone, or delete your advertising ID on Android.

Checking this browser…

You can also block or clear cookies in your browser settings. Clearing site data also erases the free tracker's hours, so download or copy them first. On your phone: on iPhone, Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking; on Android, Settings, Privacy, Ads.

Plus and ads

YourHourly Plus removes ads. In the app, the ad tools don't load at all for Plus subscribers. On the website, while you're signed in with Plus, no ad and no ad script loads.
